Euro 2012 co-hosts Ukraine has gone through a health scare, six days before the opening match against Sweden, with 10 players suffering from of all problems - an upset stomach. Oleg Blokhin, coach of the Zbirna (as they are called by their Ukrainian fans) revealed this Tuesday evening.

Anatoly Tymoshchuk, a valuable midfielder, is currently bedridden and on the drip and Andriy Voronin, the striker for the team has also fallen to the disease. "Tymoshchuk is still in a bad condition, we have got him on a drip. We have to wait for the doctors' verdict but the situation is far from funny," Blokhin said after the Turks nailed them in Germany.

"I do not know the reason for the illness because we all ate different food. We have one week to recover,” Blokhin pointing out the still unknown cause.

The Ukrainian team already lost 3-2 from Austria in an earlier friendly game held in Innsbruck, Austria last June 1.

According to coach Blokhin, defender Bogdan Butko and midfielder Denys Garmash were also affected by the stomach problems but were able to start on the game against Turkey, despite playing and experiencing pain at the same time.

"If Butko and Garmash had refused to play I could have cancelled the game because of a lack of players," he said.

Pektemek set up Erkin to score on the half-hour but Ukraine, outplayed in the first half, improved after the break and the Turkey goalkeeper, Mert Gunok, was forced to parry Yaroslav Rakitskiy's header at full stretch.

Blokhin maximized five substitutes during the game, including Captain Andriy Shevchenko, with both Butko and Garmash as starters.

Pektemek sealed victory for Turkey when he beat the offside trap and lobbed Andriy Pyatov on 69 minutes.

Blokhin, though disappointed, is still relieved that this event did not transpire on June 11, the day of the official match against Sweden.

The Ukrainian team, only recognized internationally after the collapse of the Soviet Union (Ukrainians played as members of team USSR for a long time), has the Euro 2012 as their debut to the UEFA (being a co-host automatically qualifies them).
