Summer Basketball Tournaments: Las Vegas Pro AM

In my last article I admit I was whining about not having basketball for the next 4 months after the playoffs. But, I just found out that my local cable carrier will be carrying the most prestigious summer basketball tournament this summer. The Las Vegas Pro/Amateur tournament boast some of the best talent in terms of checking out free agents, rookies and players who didn’t get much time on the floor this season. I love this tournament because players are here trying to gun for a spot and make the roster also it gives you a real good view on some of the draft picks. The last time I went to Vegas in 2008, I was able to check out Jerryd Bayless drafted by the Portland Trailblazers by way of Arizona. Let me tell you he was unstoppable a straight scoring machine through the tournament He was absolutely sensational. He dazzled with his exceptional quickness and irritated his opponents with his scoring aptitude. Good enough to earn tournaments most outstanding player.

Bayless, in game blew up for 36 points and buried the game-winning basket on a Saturday that I watched, was named the T-Mobile NBA Summer League Top Rookie. He ranked No. 1 in scoring (29.8 ppg) in Las Vegas and helped lead the Blazers to a 3-2 record.

Other players, meanwhile, also flourished over the past week. Houston's Donte Greene, for example, dropped 40 points in his debut and came in second behind Bayless for the highest scoring average.

Golden State has a lot to look forward to. Their top pick Anthony Randolph showed how versatile he is. He, along with Brandan Wright, will give the revamped Warriors much-needed depth this upcoming season. So, summer won’t be so bad after all. Hey, while Im in Vegas Im going to not only check out these games but also see if I can take action with some casino and online betting odds.
