Womens Tennis Fed Cup: Serena Cruises To An Easy Victory

Serena Williams once again dominated with an easy win over17-year-old Ukrainian Elina Svitolina. It was the the first day of a Fed Cup tie between Ukraine and United States played April 21. The 6-2, 6-1 win gave the U.S. a 2-0 over Ukraine, as Christina McHale won the first match of the day.

In the 1st match, McHale and Ukraine's Leysa Tsurenko was more competitive, with McHale needed three sets to win after Tsurenko shocked her in the second. The U.S team needed one win in either the reverse singles or the doubles match to lock up the victory over Ukraine.

The US Team was never really thereatned, as Ukraine fielded a team of newcomers without much experience on the international stage. Sernea made the trip to play for the United States, and the chances of Ukraine being able to pull off an upset became even more remote. Not to take anything away from Svitolina and Tsurenko these two played well, they just aren't yet to the level of Serena or McHale.

Therein lies the rub, in my opinion. Under Olympic qualifying rules, to go to the Olympics a women's player must make herself availble for the Fed Cup at least twice in a four-year cycle. Serena last played in a Fed Cup event in 2007, and that was in the last cycle.

Things are really heating up and I'm looking for the women's team to continue their dominance. I gotta check the online betting odds on these upcoming Fed Cup matches.
